Mortgage Rate Trends
The 30-year and 15-year fixed figures are weekly national averages from the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey as published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED series MORTGAGE30US and MORTGAGE15US). The ARM figures are estimates derived from the 30-year average and are labelled as such on the chart. Averages are not offers: your rate depends on your credit, loan type, property, down payment and lender.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do these rates come from?
- The fixed-rate figures come from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis FRED database, which republishes the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey. The ARM figures are estimates derived from the 30-year average. When the live feed is unavailable the chart shows clearly labelled illustrative sample data instead.
- How often do the rates update?
- Freddie Mac publishes the survey weekly, usually on Thursday. The chart shows the most recent published week and the history for the range you select.
- Why is my quoted rate different from the average?
- The survey reflects conforming conventional loans to borrowers with strong credit and 20% down. Non-QM, DSCR, bank-statement and hard-money loans price differently, as do loans with points or smaller down payments. Results are estimates for planning only, not financial advice, a credit decision, or an offer of credit. A loan officer can confirm the numbers that apply to you.
Want a loan officer to look at your numbers? The Loan Officer matches borrowers with loan officers for non-QM, DSCR, bank-statement and hard-money scenarios.
The Loan Officer is a loan-matching marketplace, not a lender or mortgage broker. It does not set rates, make credit decisions, or originate loans. Equal Housing Opportunity.
